Today, Congressman Steve Pearce gave a presentation on the dangers of Methamphetamines at Tucumcari High School. Pearce has been highlighting the effects of methamphetamines on families and communities for almost two years and has spoken at dozens of schools and community centers.
Today's presentation was delievered to over 300 junior high and high school students and provided background information on meth, crime statistics, testimonials from former users and dealers, as well as signs of use. During the program, Pearce made the following comments:
"Young people in New Mexico are four to five times more likely to be addicted to meth than the national average. It is a scourge that is taking over our communities, destroying our families and threatening our children's future.
"We must fight back. Everyone of us has a responsibility to act when you see the signs of meth use in your neighborhood. I believe our families and communities are the frontline in combating meth and they are also our most effective weapon. If we can find out about the problem early enough, we can get help to those who need it."
